In May 2013, EcoKids launched its first ever competition. From 1st May 2013, every quarter (three months), any member who had a collection was entered into the competition.

At the end of each quarter the organisation whose collection weighed the most (textiles only) was that quarter’s winner. The winner of each quarter was then entered into the end of year final where whoever had collected the most (in textiles) would win the top prize of a Samsung NX200 digital camera!!

The main aim of the competition was to give organisations and its members another incentive to their fundraising and to push for those vital donations when raising money for schools, club or charity.

The first quarter saw Hinstock School & Hedgehogs PTFA take an early advantage. The textiles from their collection weighed in at 1081.21kg. A great start to the competition and a fab weight to put pressure on for the rest of the competition!

Barneys Playbarn were the second quarters winners with a collection weight of 1446.64kg. Their quarters victory was made that extra bit special when EcoKids learnt that the money being raised from their EcoKids collections are being donated to a local charity to Barneys Playbarn, Lucy’s Bluebird Trust. Lucy’s Bluebird Trust was set up to be able to help Lucy, aged just 10 years old, keeping smiling through her battle with Cancer. Barneys Playbarn made Lucy’s Bluebird Trust their charity of the year! It’s an honour for Ecokids to be able to help Barneys Playbarn raise this money.

The winners of the third quarter were Pontyclun Primary School. Their collection saw them collect 945.6kg of textiles! The competition was certainly seeing some amazing weights been reached!

The fourth and final quarter came to an end on 30th April 2014! After a year of fantastic collections results, just one more finalist to reveal and then the overall winner would be announced! Active Hope made the line up of our finalists complete with their super collection weight of 1349.5kg! It had been a fantastic competition of great results and now there was just one thing left to do….

The winner of the top prize of a Samsung NX200 digital camera was Barneys Playbarn with their collection of 1446.64kg!! When informing them that they were the winners, Cheryl from Barneys Playbarn said:

‘We were thrilled to win the camera, we never expected to win so hadn’t thought too much about it until we got the email!  We carry out Eco kids collections twice a year to help with our fundraising and always give the money we raise to a chosen charity.  It’s a really good incentive for everyone taking part and we will be able to update our customers quickly now we have a camera to make things a little more exciting.’
